Arguably the most unique and beloved event to take place on Catalina every year is the Island’s 4th of July celebration. Where else will you find a golf cart parade led by the USC marching band, a dingy boat parade through the harbor, and a fireworks display you can enjoy from any spot in town or on the balcony of the famed Casino building? Celebrating our nation’s Independence Day is a big affair on Catalina, and residents and visitors alike take it very seriously—houses and boats are decked out in red, white and blue, barbecues are turning out hamburgers and hot dogs, and an air of celebration takes over our little community of Avalon. Oh, and did I mention great live music in various venues by our own talented island musicians?
