Thursday’s “Unplugged Under the Stars” at Descanso Beach

Every October for the past 25 years, the Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival, produced by Art Good, has come to Avalon and taken over for three fun and music-filled weekends. From Friday night through Sunday night, the top names in Smooth Jazz descend on Catalina Island and perform in the world famous Casino Ballroom. If you would like to start your weekend early, come over for Thursday night’s “JazzTrax Festival Unplugged” held at Descanso Beach Club. Who wouldn’t want to listen to some live jazz beach side? For jazz lovers, this is the destination festival of the year. It has been voted “Best Jazz Festival in the Country” more than once. Even if jazz isn’t typically your music genre of choice, the experience is well worth a trip to Catalina. All of Avalon gets excited for the festival, and local residents have come to refer to this as the last big hurrah of the “summer” season. The weather typically remains amazingly good throughout October, making it a favorite time of year for many to visit the island.
