Santa Catalina Island, CA has been both backlot and playground for the film industry since before Hollywood was Hollywood.
With its waving palm trees, dramatic landscapes and horizon-stretching seascapes, Catalina has stood in for locations as diverse as the South Seas and the Atlantic seaboard. Hundreds of films have been shot on and around Catalina Island and dozens of stars have spent thousands of hours relaxing on the island’s beaches, cruising its coastline and enjoying its majestic interior.
Hollywood’s love affair of a relationship with Catalina Island, CA will once again be celebrated this weekend at the Third Annual Catalina Film Festival. Developed to honor the bond between the two icons, the Catalina Film Festival raises funds for the Catalina Island Conservancy and is quickly becoming one of the premier film festivals in Southern California.
This year’s event will honor several Hollywood luminaries, including Sharon Stone, Jon Favreau, Patricia Arquette and Tony Scott. More than 75 films will be screened, including feature films, documentaries, shorts, student films and animated films. There will also be nightly events, including star-studded parties, as well as entertainment and networking opportunities.
Three-day and five-day festival passes are still available by visiting www.catalinafilm.org. See you at the movies.
