Ask any Catalina Island resident what their favorite time of year is and I’ll bet you a dollar the answer will be fall. Warm weather and warm water combined with fewer crowds and a cornucopia of events make autumn on Catalina irresistible for both visitors and locals alike.
Southern California’s usual tendencies toward an Indian summer wrap Catalina in bathing suit weather until well into October and those sunny days continue to warm the ocean to the high 60s and low 70s. It’s the perfect time to rent a paddle board and explore the harbor or plunge beneath the surface and discover the underwater wonderland that encircles the island.
On land, autumn means fewer crowds and shorter waits, but a wealth of festivals and events. This year, fall will bring the cool sounds of smooth jazz at JazzTrax, the toe-tapping exuberance of the Catalina Swing Dance Festival and the high-flying thrills of the second annual Catalina Air Show. We’re also looking forward to the Catalina Art Festival, the family fun at Fallfest and for those more athletically inclined, the challenging Catalina Triathlon.
