Catalina Island has long been a destination for endurance athletes. Ever since 1927, when William Wrigley, Jr. organized the Wrigley Ocean Marathon Swim, Santa Catalina’s Pacific waters and challenging environment have been a beacon for ultimate athletes.

One of Santa Catalina’s signature endurance events has become the Catalina Island Triathlon, held every year in early November.  Starting off with a plunge into the Pacific for a half-mile swim; followed by a 15-kilometer bike ride and then a 3.1-mile run, the Catalina Island Triathlon is a true test of endurance and is one of the more challenging triathlon courses on the globe. Several hundred athletes from around the world participate each year.

This year’s race is scheduled for Nov. 2 and features a new bike course with three loops along scenic Pebbly Beach Road and over Mt Ada.

Racers and their supporters have discovered that Catalina Island Vacation Rentals is the most convenient way to stay when planning accommodations for the race. With plenty of room to store gear, a full kitchen for pre-race meal preparation and lots of room to celebrate with family and friends after the race, CIVR’s array of Avalon condos and cottages are just the ticket. As a long-time supporter and sponsor of the Catalina Island Triathlon, Catalina Island Vacation Rentals reservationists are familiar with all the vagaries of race travel and would be happy to help you find the perfect spot to stay for your race experience.
