New options available for getting around on Catalina Island

Getting around on Catalina Island just got easier, thanks to the City of Avalon’s new Garibaldi Transport Program. Available for Avalon residents and visitors alike, the Garibaldi bus is only $1 per ride for those over five. Children under five are free. Operating 365 days a year, the Garibaldi Bus has two fixed routes, taking riders from the Cabrillo Mole Catalina ferry terminal to the Wrigley Memorial and Botanic Garden and to Step Beach, on the corner of Crescent and Marilla avenues. The all-electric bus will stop at a variety of stops through town, visiting each stop approximately every 20 minutes.
Downtown service on the Garibaldi begins at 7:20 Monday through Friday, at 8 a.m. Sunday and at 8:20 a.m. on Saturday. Service ceases at 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. In the off-season, service will end at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Service to the Wrigley Botanic Gardens begins at 9:30 a.m.
Transportation in Avalon also includes Avalon Access, a program for those who are unable to use the Garibaldi Bus service as well as Avalon Dial-A-Ride a program for seniors and individuals with disabilities. For details on the Avalon Transit program, call 310-510-0081.
