everyday life, Catalina can be your home away from home. Coming to
the island transports you to another world…your own personal
paradise.
Catalina Island is a unique travel destination that offers endless
opportunities for escape and adventure. From relaxing on the beach
with a book to hiking into the interior of the island or kayaking
along the coastline, there’s something for everyone. Check out the
list below!
|
Bicycling/Hiking |
Boating/Fishing |
-
Ride
around the village of Avalon or venture into the
interior of the island. Bring your own bike, or rent
a mountain bike, a beach cruiser, or a tandem bike
once you get here. If you bring your own, make sure
you notify the boat when you make your reservation.
Mountain bikes, helmets, and bicycle permits are
required for riding in the interior of the island
and may be obtained at the Catalina Conservancy
office.
-
There are
a number of hiking trails around the island, with
varying levels of difficulty. A trail map can be
obtained at the Catalina Conservancy office.
|
- Rent a motorboat and drive yourself for
sightseeing, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, or
just relaxing. Of course, you can always bring your
own boat across the channel and moor it in the
harbor!
- Drop your line off one of the piers, rent a
skiff, or enjoy a private charter and fish off shore
to enjoy some of the best sport fishing around.

- From flying fish trips (yup, we really do have
flying fish!) to glass-bottom boats, the
opportunities for enjoying our Pacific paradise are
endless.
- Several sightseeing tours around Avalon and into
the interior of the island are available to you via
trams, charters, and tour buses. You may even see
some buffalo! You can also visit the legendary art
deco Casino Building, the Wrigley Memorial and
Botanical Garden, and many other walk-to
destinations and attractions.
|
- Play the oldest course in Southern California!
Our nine-hole resort golf course with two sets of
tees for 18-hole play is open for public play year
round.
- See the sights of Avalon and its surrounding
hills at your leisure. You’ll see more golf carts
than any other type of vehicle on the streets of
Avalon, as they are the primary means of
transportation for local residents, too.
- Our popular miniature golf course is known as
one of the most challenging and beautiful 18-hole
courses around.

Many couples do get married here on the island of
romance! And what a great place to return to for
anniversary celebrations. |
|
Go to a Movie |
Volunteer Vacations |
- Enjoy a current movie in the beautiful Avalon
Theatre, located in the main level of the Casino
Building. The movie is shown nightly, with two shows
on Friday and Saturday evenings, and it changes
every Friday. No matinees, as it’s part of the
Casino tour during the day. By the way, the Avalon
Theatre was the first theatre designed for sound
movies and is home to one of only four Page organs.
|
- If you’re looking for a really unique and
rewarding vacation experience, several of these are
scheduled throughout the year thanks to the Catalina
Island Conservancy. You can find the 2005 vacations
on our Calendar of Events.
