Vacation Rental Summary
We just vacationed on the island and had a wonderful experience. We almost had to cancel our trip due to a sudden death in the family, but Catalina Island Vacation Rentals was sympathetic to the situation and managed to shift our rental date by a few days. The house itself is priced right. It could stand a little updating, but it was clean. I think the house may need a new hot water heater as it took a good five minutes before it would get hot enough to shower. We did notice every evening around the same time a smell of gas/propane. It didn't last long, but was kind of strange. The balcony is a huge plus! It accommodated all of us, plus enough room to dry out our dive gear. I would definitely stay at this rental again.
We just got back from a perfect weekend in Catalina full of golf carts, kayaking, massages, and fun. We had a girls weekend just hanging at the beach and Bbqing at the house. This house fit the 8 of us ladies perfectly with tons of room so we didn't feel like sardines. The beds are comfortable but the couch pull out not so much. It's a quiet little place super close to town and I would probably rent it again if we went back. I liked that it was in the middle between Descanso and town. We brought an aerobed (we had room to inflate a queen size one) so the girls didn't have to sleep on the pull out but there were two blow up ones there. Highly recommend it! It's a little older but clean, comfortable, and roomy!!!
The price was right for three bedrooms. The apartment smelled a little funny (gas leak was discovered later), the bathroom ceiling was moldy, and the toilet backed up twice. Only one of the rooms had a tv. Other than the smell, the place was clean and tidy. We were allowed to check in early and the staff helped us with our issues. Not the greatest first impression, but we would go back and give them another chance.
Overall the property is very nice, clean nice kitchen great patio and grill. I wouldn't say it sleeps 8 tho it has 2 queens 2 full size beds one of which is a sofa bed I slept on the sofa bed and it is very uncomfortable and in fact the middle of the bed is the only place you don't hit a pole 2 people would not make it The weekend we were there was very hot I didn't expect air conditioning but some fans would have been nice I chose this property because it said 2 bathrooms well one has only a tub the other a shower so we pretty much had 1.5 baths I also chose it because it was on the bottom floor not realizing that meant the "basement" we had to haul a stroller up and down very narrow stairs The bedding was clean however the bedspreads are old and stained think it is time for new ones
We stayed on Sumner for a birthday celebration and it was the perfect location. We were walking distance to the golf course and to downtown. We were able to visit everything we wanted within walking distance and rented a cart for 1 hour just to tour the island. The rental home was nice, but really just served as a place for us to have dinner and sleep. It had a grill on a small patio that allowed the four of us to grill out and socialize in the evenings. The reason that we stayed at a home rather than a hotel room was so that we could have a real kitchen, and that saved us a lot of money by cooking our dinner twice. Judging by the cost of the dinner that we ate at a restaurant, we easily saved a couple hundred dollars. We would absolutely stay at this property again.
We had our ups and downs here. I was glad I asked ahead of time where I would pick up the keys since our ferry didn't get in until 7, and apparently after office hours you have to pick up the keys from the taxi dispatch office. No one gave us this information without my asking, however. The home itself was in descent repair; it said it was equipped for up to eight people, but there were strange odds and ends regarding kitchen utensils and dishes for this large of a group. The pull-out couch could not have been more uncomfortable, but that might be to be expected. Finally and most importantly, we did smell gas one night and we called the fire department. We weren't taking any chances as one member of the group is pregnant, and we were glad we called because sure enough there was a gas leak. When I told the lady when I dropped off the keys all I got was a "thank you for letting us know" and a "sorry about that". I guess I was surprised that nothing more was even offered to us. Overall, things were fine but slightly scary.
