Vacation Rental Summary
It was a last minute booking ans out expectations were pretty low. It surprised us. The pluses first; 1) location very close to center of town 2) the balcony on second floor and the top deck are great, 3) it has a futon that is the size of a full bed aside from the bedrooms. The not so impressive parts; 1) there isn't a second bedroom. The "bedrooms" are on first floor. As soon as you open the door you see the queen bed and the large futon is on your right. You walk past the bed and you have the full bathroom and the bedroom with the King bed ahead. 2) The oddity is that the bedroom has a shower where the closets would be. There is a powder room on second floor. 3) it is a bit noisy to sleep past 8am as you hear various vehicles go by. The second floor kitchen , dining area and the sitting area are great. It is a decent place with good views and a great location (except for the noise)
We really enjoyed our stay and it was great for a family. It does not have two separate private rooms as advertised and might not work well for two couples but worked great for us. Needed a little updating. Upstairs sofa bed is worn out (mattress, etc) and a few other things were falling apart or low quality. Otherwise the size and location were great and we would stay there again. Fantastic view!
We stayed in the place for 2 nights - 6 people, 2 families. The house have a great location - literally - 3 steps to the beach/ restaurants/ shops. Very nice a cozy place. The patio on the roof is amazing - we spent evenings there - chatting, watching boats in the bay and deer on the streets (yes, deer come at night and casually walking on the streets - we had to wake up kids so they can see it). One of the bedrooms is not actually a bedroom, but a part of the family room and it can be an issue for 2 families. Also the trash removing is a little bit confusing - where to put it at the end. For the cleaning price I'd prefer not to worry about it at all. Kitchen is great and pretty well supplied - go get a fresh fish and grill it on the balcony - it is worth it. We are definitely coming back again.
Listen, this place is set up with one private bedroom and one large room with a futon and queen size bed right when you walk in the door. However, the private bedroom has a nice shower in it and there is a nice size bathroom downstairs. Then you go up the stairs and there is half bath,a huge kitchen, dining space and living room (fold out couch)that opens up to a nice size balcony all with the most incredible view of the harbor, boats, lights and palm trees. One more flight up from the balcony and you now are at the top on a private roof deck area with the most comfortable chairs ever with a major view! We have stayed all over the Island and this is now our perfect rental! It is not the most gorgeous decorated rental however you are one block from the beach, two blocks from the ice cream and in the best area for peace on the Island! I am really happy our family calls this place home for even one week. If they bought new couches, it would be perfect.
The Marilla house is beautiful and we had a wonderful time. We didn't even feel like we were in California. 114 Marilla was a very nice home, comfortable, and very clean. We are hoping to make Catalina our annual family vacation spot and Civr will be our rental go-to company. We were well informed on activities & what to do during our stay. Catalina is a wonderful beach vacation getaway. The locals are super friendly. It's a tough place to leave.
It was very convenient being right in town. No need for a golf cart. The second "bedroom" is created by pulling two partitions to enclose an area of the living room. This provided plenty of privacy so I wouldn't consider this a problem. Great view from both the balcony and upper deck. I would have liked having Wi-Fi though.
