Vacation Rental Summary
This is the second time we stayed in this house. It has a great view of the bay from a balcony, but its the interior that needs some attention. This place hasn't been improved since we stayed two years ago. The wallpaper is old and dreary and peeling off the walls, there is no WIFI (shame) the kitchen knives are all blunt, there are only two wine glasses and a couple of meager tumblers and coffee cups. There isn't even much in the way of cooking necessities such as spices, seasonings and oil. I realize that the town of Avalon desires that we spend all our time and money at the restaurants and cafe's, but some of us just want some quiet time at night and not have to eat out. I recommend this place for its convenience and view of Avalon, but for the price I expect a little more attention to detail by the owners. One more thing. I did not think much of the customer service of the vacation rental service. They were kind of grumpy, and no apologies for some missing furniture cushions. Perhaps they are a little stir crazy being stuck on the island.
Rental was smaller and older than the pictures. It was average. The climb up 2 high streets was too much for my husband and I, especially in the warm weather. The first street had construction going on and the second street had dirty planters filled with papers and etc.
The entire experience of getting this rental was a smooth one thanks to the support offered by Civr. At one point, we almost cancelled and they put our place back on the market for a while to see if anyone else would rent it. Thankfully no one else did bc the house was what we needed. We felt we got a lot of value as there was plenty of space, rooms for the 6 of us, and flexibility to cook and grill too. This had what we needed which was a place to crash, hang out, and cook. We saved a lot of money by staying here which we used to enjoy the island. We actually had a problem w the grill and they promptly came thru and fixed it.
Upper Level Unit - We stayed here to attend a wedding. We had my 88 year old father staying with us who managed the few steps to the front door and then everything inside was on one level. This was the reason we rented this place and it worked perfectly. We also like this end of the beach and feel it is a lot quieter. (Not many cars or foot traffic.) The patio and view is wonderful. The beds were a very thick dense foam and very comfortable. We wish we were staying longer. We would definitely try to rent this place again.
We love the maiden lane house. Cirv staff was welcoming and very helpful. It is quiet and away from the constant buzzing of the golf carts you hear down in the village. The deck is awesome. Sun all day! This old house has charm with updated kitchen. We will come to stay in 116 maiden lane any time we can. Oh yeah, the beds are very comfortable too.
As a group of friends, we have been renting cabins and houses around the country on the same weekend every year. This year we chose Catalina Island. The location of the house is very nice, up on the hill, although if you are lugging a bunch of gear, it could be considered a work-out. The view is limited but is still nice. Our only concern was the equipment and utilities of the house. There is no stereo. The DVD player did not work and it took us two visits to the rental office to finally get a working replacement and the hot water heater was not working when we checked in, not to mention an older model stove. One of the bedrooms had a stained bedspread and was distasteful.
