Vacation Rental Summary
There were 10 of us that came and went, the main core was my son, Daughter -in-law and my daughter and son-in law, My husband came for just a two day stay. The grand kids came and stayed for a day or two at different times, they are 21 to 29, Everybody loved the house but it did have its problems, The stairs were one of the major problems ,Usually we go to down at least three or four times not this time we felt kind of house bound, and to take a cab was aprox $17.00 and at 79 years old the stairs felt like a heart test, the bedroom with no windows to the outside was useless very musty and dark and had a smell to it no one wanted to stay in there but all things considered I would stay there again, They do need to purchase a golf cart, We would not mind another couple of a hundred dollars a week for the use of one.The service frome the rental agency was good, the people renting it befor us had taken the remote for the T.V and they brought us up a new one and programed the t.V for it. All in all we loved the place but it did have its warts.
We have stayed in this vacation home many times for two reasons: 1 - the view from the wrap around deck is unbeatable. Truly stunning! 2 - it is one of the few rentals in avalon that accommodates a group of 10. It's a good ole beach house. We've been here with kids, cousins, parents and there are lots of areas to spread out and have a good time without being on top of each other. The wide deck has lots lounge chairs, a large outdoor table with an umbrella and a corner flagpole. Inside: There's a nice big dinner table placed to make the most of the view. Cozy living room with an eclectic assortment of leather ouch, lounge chairs and rocking chair. The kitchen has been remodeled and has lovely cherry (?) wood and marble counters. There's a convenient clothes line out kitchen door for wet swim suits and beach towels. Also, an easy-access twin bed room on the street/living room/kitchen level. The rest of the house (the other 4 bedrooms) are down steep stairs either one level (the 2 queen rooms and the cavelike bunkbed room) or two levels (the master king bed and washer/dryer.) This house as a whole is best for a physically fit family as it is quite a mountain goat's climb from beach level, up through the park and up the 129 steps of the "dragon stairs" as the locals call them. Certainly doable and well worth the view--but literally not for the faint of heart. (The mini hike inside the house--up three flights from the master bedroom to the main level got my heart pumping every time. I considered it my daily aerobics. ha-ha!) I'm giving this basically charming house 4 stars vs. 5 because the spectacular view and new kitchen pluses are tempered by the dingy old carpeting, the dark pink "cavelike" bunkbed room and the generally well-worn feeling of the bedding and furniture; not at all unusual for high traffic rentals. We certainly have enjoyed our multiple stays here. I just want to be honest about the accommodations for fellow tripadvisor folk. There are cards and games in the cupboards. We stayed up late watching the lights of the harbor and listening to the sounds of the tourists walking the streets of avalon. Quite a wonderful vacation feeling to be found here. Come for the room(s) with a view, and be prepared for the healthy hike.
This is a great house! The layout is perfect for large groups with plenty of living space. The deck is awesome and the view is unreal! You can walk to town, the beach, just about anywhere from this house. We really enjoyed our week and would rent this house again in the future.
This was our first time staying in a rental any where but the flats . We choose this because we didn't know what the weather would be and we knew the view would be fun no matter what . The house is really so so . The remodel kitchen is nice but youll be buying some basic and watch out for the stove and oven ,seems it has a mind of it own .Bedrooms are just ok , baths are better and the place is clean . Hey it's Catalinia , you can have a great time staying in a tent . Civr as usual is a progressive , professional , efficient and freindly Rental Company that's hard to beat !
We enjoyed our stay at 176 Middle Terrace very much. The home had a very nice, spacious kitchen and a view no one could peel their eyes from. The second floor also has a view off two of the queen bedrooms. The home was very quaint and perfect for our little birthday celebration. I didn't mind the 150-step hike to the place as it was good forced exercise, and appreciated the fact that the home was walking distance from the town so we didn't need to cab or golf cart it all the time. I didnt mind the old vintage style of the home either, we were able to get warm water and the kitchen had many amenities. I would recommend bringing warm clothes to sleep in though since it can get cold. Best staycation ever!
Everything was great, the only reason I'm not rating this with 5 stars is if you don't have a cart it makes for quite a hike, but that's the reason it has such a great view. The cleanliness is rated average because the carpet could use a good cleaning.
We stayed in the home for a birthday party with two copules and few friends. We had a great time. Obviously the view is amazing. The first day we sat on the balcony and soaked it in. Our 2nd day, we sat out there in the morning for another couple of hours and just enjoyed. It was many of our first times to Catalina and we had the best time. The home is well equipped and comfortable. The stairs to the home were not a problem (we are all in our 30's and didn't have children with us) and you can always take a cab when you have luggage, groceries or children.
I come to Catalina every year, and was especially excited this year because I had decided to rent this house. Although it is a bit smaller than a 5 bedroom should be, it's completely comfortable for 10 people. The furniture is a bit dated, and carpet could use a steam cleaning, but the kitchen is very modern with an excellent stove for cooking meals for a large group. However, if your considering renting this house, all of the above really shouldn't matter to you. This place is all about the deck and the view and everyone knows it. It's the place to be in the house, and frankly, with a BBQ, lawn chairs, and plenty of room for the whole family, why would you want to be anywhere else? In closing, the house is a bit pricey per night if you ask me, but with a few extended family members or friends pitching in this house is well worth the price. I look forward to renting it again! Oh, and the rental company, Catalina Island Vacation Rentals, is amazing. I can't say enough good things about the manager Phil and my booking associate Chey. Both were extremely helpful, understanding, and friendly. 5-stars and a hi-five to them!
We came to Catalina for a wedding and definitely plan on coming back. In fact I looked to see if I could rent the same house in a month and you were sold old out. It was very easy to check in and out. Grateful the cabs can get up there for our luggage. The view was fabulous and we enjoyed cooking and spending time together. Our favorite spot was the deck.We will be back. We couldn't get the oven to work to make cookies so maybe some instructions for that. Queen size beds would be better for couples renting. I want to come back with my sisters and there spouses and we will all fight over the kingsize bed. we're tall people.
Place was beautiful, view gorgeous, all 11 of us at times loved every second of our time in Catalina, some had never been there before. Only issue with the house is the dirty carpet and floors, but that didn't hinder us and we would stay at that house again in a heartbeat! Loved it!
This place is worth it. Went to Catalina for a weekend on a guys trip to go fishing, and we wanted a house to rent. There were only a few places that could sleep 9, so we took the one with the view and it was well worth it. Great kitchen and dinning room that opens up. Beds were comfortable enough. The wrap around deck was nearly worth the price alone. I would definitely rent this place again if I were to organize another trip. The furniture is not the newest and greatest, but it does. This is not a place to stay for older people out of shape. To get into town you would have to cab it, which is $15-18 for about a 1 mile trip...ouch, or walk down the stairs, which are no joke. We were all men age 29-38 and some would have to stop and take breathers on the way up. So my biggest request on this place and the only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that it didn't let you use the golf cart that is already there. I understand that it is a nice cart and you don't want people to ruin it, but that walk sucks. Other than that, Amazing place!
