Vacation Rental Summary
Renting from Civr was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The house was in a great location, met the needs of 8 people with its 3 full bathrooms and 4 bedrooms, and had plenty of sitting space. The only downside was that some of the living room sitting furniture needs to be replaced because of wear. Also the toilet in the master bedroom needed the plunger several times a day. Overall it was a great experience for all of us.
We have been renting houses for several years (Hawaii, San Diego, Mexico, etc) for family trips so I am pretty familiar with the house rental "experience". I will say that Civr was about the most responsive and friendly rental management company we have encountered. We had a few "small" problems with the rental unit (ie problem with the hot water heater) and they had their people over the house within an hour! All in all, the house is a great house. Fantastic location, much larger than most of the other houses, plenty of beds (bunk beds in both rooms), ceiling fans, lots of windows, etc. Inside the house itself was "fine" but a bit tired and in need of some TLC. The furniture had holes in it and there were stains on the rug. No big deal (as we have three young kids), but hopefully the owners will put a few dollars in to sprucing up the place. In addition, there should be more attention on the "little things" as follows: - there was no sponge in the sink area - the cups and glasses were so old and dingy... we refused to use them and went out and bought our own. - the silverware in the drawer was dirty. Pretty disgusting to walk in to a rental and have to start the vacation by re-washing someone else's dirty dishes - the dishwasher was on its last leg also, so we hand washed our dishes -would have been nice to have a little laundry detergent on hand (my 5 year old threw up the first night and we had to wash clothes) - no seat pads around the kitchen table...only hard benches all in all, the house is a great house. Fantastic location, much larger than most of the other houses, plenty of beds (bunk beds in both rooms)
We rented this place for a week. It seems new, very clean, and it's a super location. Lots of space for family gatherings, good cooking facilities. Be aware that like most island houses there is no a/C, so street noise will be evident with windows open, like in any city. Rental agent was great to deal with. We found mattress on king bed in master BR a bit soft, but we got used to it.
House is nice and big. Plenty of seating in family room for relaxing after a day at the beach. Unit is right around the corner from Von Express which makes trips to the grocery store very easy. Washer and dryer are very tiny would be my only negative. Tried to pack light since we had laundry in unit but it was so small it took to many loads. Who wants to do a ton of loads of laundry on vacation!! Would rent this home again would just pack with the small washer in mind.
The house is large for rentals in avalon and in a great location, which is the main reason we rent it. It feels like a rental house (not a home) -- impersonal, not always carefully maintained (furniture and carpet looks more worn each year, we've had problems with bathroom fixtures most years tho' not in 2012). Great to have a washer and dryer for longer stays on the island (esp. With kids). The dishwasher is a nice plus, as is the balcony off the master bedroom. It would be nice if the house came with beach chairs, an umbrella, and beach towels, as many other rental houses do, especially as we fly out from the East Coast and can't bring our own. The huge downside is price --- it's extremely expensive, even for avalon.
