Avalon Homes - 336 Descanso Ave - 2 bedrooms - 1 bath
Located on upper Descanso, it's about 3 blocks to the beach and downtown. This is a small cottage with the original Catalina floor plan - the bedrooms are tandem (you walk through one to get to the other). The first bedroom has a double bed, the second bedroom has 2 singles and the living room has a queen sofa sleeper. This cottage offers an open floor plan in the living space with bamboo flooring throughout, a fully equipped kitchen, a color TV/VCR with cable, and a small back yard shared with 338 Descanso, right next door. No smoking, please.
This property rents on a nightly basis during the non-summer seasons (2 night minimum, holidays and selected dates excepted) and on a weekly basis (Sunday to Sunday) in summer (mid-June through Labor Day). Rates vary by week and are subject to change. Rates do not include one-time cleaning and linen fee, 12% City of Avalon occupancy tax, and processing fees.

The cottage met our needs, was clean,the neighborhood was quiet, and every thing we used worked. We stayed to attend the Jazz Trax Festival.

This is a good small house overall, has nice new bamboo floors but there are two issues which make the almost un-acceptable. First the bathroom is very old, needs a major upgrade. There are openings/cracks in floor coverings,and walls that are a perfect place for insects. We saw several small roaches in the bathroom. Second, the couch is the family room is very old, and smelled. We preferred to sit on the floor most of the time.

It was a very cute house and my family and I loved it.. House was very comfy and it was clean. A very simple house and we felt at home right away. Civr's customer service was great as well! One of the downside was the Check-in and Check-out system of Civr. The system was okay but it would've been much better if the check-in was earlier than 3pm and the check-out was later than 10am. We stayed one night and we felt like we were on the run because of the check-in, check-out system. We arrived early on the island because we wanted to explore the island early but we have luggage so we had to drop off our luggage at the "luggage center". We then walked around the island and when it was time for the check-in we had to walk all the way back again to the "luggage center" and walk all the way to the house. It was a hassle but we didn't really mind. I just wished they would have the check-in early or maybe they could work it out with their customers. Anyway! No worries! It was a very cute house and we plan to book this house again in the future.

We very much enjoyed staying at this house for the week of the 4th of July. A family member rented 338 (next door) and with the shared patio and BBQ we all were able to spend time together between the 2 houses and have lots of big family meals. I would like to recommend that the owner add a latch to the screen on the front door because it would make staying there with small children much easier! The house had a great stock of kitchen supplies and the beds were pretty comfy too.

Dated interior and small beds and rooms but they are just to sleep in. Our family of 6 was better off than in two hotel rooms and we would use it again.
