Vacation Rental Summary
Over the years I’ve sailed to Catalina a half-dozen times, never staying in a hotel just on the sailboat. All the hotels appeared a bit on the rundown-side of a bed & breakfast, so I wasn’t feeling like I was missing anything. Then my boyfriend surprised me with a birthday weekend at the Hamilton Cove Villa’s just up the private beach Descanso Cove… and it was a whole new Catalina experience! Staying at Hamilton Cove seemed to me is like a cross between St. Marteen & Santo Rini on the coast of Greece. Not only is the view from Hamilton Cove breathtaking, but add the breeze and quiet sounds of the ocean put this little stressed-out girl in that mesmerizing trance I’ve only experienced in the Caribbean! We couldn’t have asked for a better condo than Villa 1-55, with its perfect unobstructed views of the beach, pool, volleyball court, mountains and of course the ocean… add in its interior cozy coastal décor and we never wanted to leave the suite (did I mention the 5-star linens?!). Once we pulled ourselves from our 2-story corner hide-away, it was a relief that our villa was not pitched at the top of the mountain, making the hike down to the shore and pool an easy couple flights downstairs. We did venture out with our provided golf cart (included, adorable & fun!); played a set of tennis (provided rackets in the suite), then off the private resort to downtown Avalon and got our dose of the locals, market and even visited an old cabin my boyfriend had stayed at before (not even worth comparing)… To sum up, the 2 day trip was so relaxing it felt like 2 week vacation. Villa 1-55 was a perfect host and had everything we needed to enjoy our time together,.. my only complaint is that we had to leave.
This is a nice peaceful get a way. the weather and scenery is excellent. The water temp was very surprisingly cool compared to East coast! Unit is great for family with one or two small kids that sleep on pull out in livingroom. However for long stay not so convenient. The housekeeping should have been better, specifically on extra linens for pullout. The steps are killer especially with luggage! Overall this is a great villa complex and excellent downtown. Plenty of relaxing and yet activities to keep everyone happy..
We never get tired of Hamilton Cove -- the views, the amenities, and the feeling of being far from home. Unit 1-55 is very nice with recent upgrades, wifi, ipod doc, flat screen tvs, and new cookware and utensils. It overlooks the pool, which is incredibly convenient if you use the pool a lot (we do), but pool noise doesn't settle down until at least 9pm (in the summer anyway). It is also nice that to have a limited number of stairs to the golf cart and the walk to the beach. Our only, very minor negative, was quite a few cobwebs and moths in the unit -- presumably it had been awhile since it had previously been rented.
