Vacation Rental Summary
This unit is more or less dead center of the complex, and is directly above the pool and clubhouse, with a view right down onto the beach. It's at the mid point so you pretty well have to go up the maximum amount of steps (not something that concerns me). As with most, if not all, units, this one comes with a golf cart and that's a must because walking from town to Hamilton Cove, while it is totally doable, would be a good half hour hike up a serious hill and if you're packing groceries, forget it, you'd need a cab which costs $15 all in from town. The unit was very nice (truly), with very large (50 inch) brand new flat screen LED smart TVs in both living room and master bed. It's nice to flip on cable and put it on a sat music station. It does get regular cable TV programs but the best entertainment is outside on the large balcony (easily could have 10 people on the balcony, it's 25 ft long and 6 ft wide). Furniture was chosen with good taste and is very comfortable (rly nice and comfortable fold out couch but we didn't use it for a bed). The artwork and decor makes u feel like you're in a well designed home The master bed mattress seemed like an old spring mattess in desperate need of replacement and i have a bad back, and so forth so i was fairly concerned but for whatever reason, it didn't bother me and i had no trouble sleeping. There's no AC and it was mid summer here at the island and in the 80s through the early evening but we had no need of AC (and I definitely an AC kinda guy). The ocean breeze with the doors open at night was heaven and because it is located directly above the beach (albeit, 300 ft away), you can hear the gentle waves come in all night. To be honest I don't think you can really do better than Hamilton Cove Villa, if you're looking at a higher end stay. In terms of price, it's right in there with the high end places and if you've got kids (I did not have kids this stay) it's a no brainer for a larger space, kitchen etc. This particular villa, the second i have stayed at, has got to be one of the best deals in the whole complex. I am sure it's lower price reflects how difficult it is to get to it. You need to ascend about 75 ft of steps. I knew this going in, or, surmised it, and it's no issue for me but if you're older or have bad knees or something, be aware of this because there is no way around it. There are no elevators here. The golf cart seemed to have an issue with exhaust, even with all the flaps open.
Had a wonderful time the villa was beautiful. Spent mornings and evenings out on the balcony watching the sun come up and then go down. Can't wait for our next chance to come back. So much to do on such a small Island...Amazing!
We love the unit. Lots of stairs so not for everyone. But we loved it
All of the villas at Hamilton Cove are awesome and all view the wonderful pacific ocean and you can see the distant Ca mainland coast on clear days :) This is a smaller villa which is fine but I like the larger one bedrooms that have a washer/dryer inside the unit and a separate tub/shower set up. All of that was just fine but one thing is worth sharing with travelers. The bathroom is fairly dark. I mean you can see but the lighting for the vanity mirror is extremely dim. I couldn't see well enough so put on light make-up and my husband could not see well enough to shave closely. Additional or brighter lighting would be a great improvement for the vanity mirror in the bathroom. Note: 70 stairs from the golf cart parking spot to the villa - no elevator. Other than that they gave us tons of towels, the golf cart was nice and quick, the champion 18 hole putting course was awesome as usual. We will be staying at Hamilton Cove again and again but not at this villa again.
We spent another great July 4th at Hamilton Cove. You don't have to deal with the crowds and you get a golf cart and pool. This time our unit had a grill, so we didn't even have to pay for the overpriced food in town, except for a lunch at the fabulous Bluewater Grill. We also got to see the fireworks from one of the best spots at the top of the hill over Hamilton Cove!
From the time we arrived it was perfect! My husband and I were celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary and had never been to Catalina. We arrived early, no problem, they had the villa ready. The gal at the front desk called us a cab to get us to the villa from the rental office, as well as called in dinner reservations for us with window seats at Steve's Steakhouse. Denni, the manager, greeted us as we were returning from having lunch on our first day there, wishing us a Happy anniversary and made sure everything was to our liking. Very personal touch! Beautiful ocean view from the master bedroom and living area. The patio, overlooking the ocean and pool, was wonderful to sit and relax, play board games and have cocktails. There was a full kitchen and grill on the patio. The use of the golf cart was the greatest, we truly saw everything there was to see in avalon via the golf cart! The market had everything we needed for our stay, but we mostly ate out. Along with Steve's steakhouse, we went to the Pancake Cottage and antonio's Pizzeria and they were all fabulous! We were surprised that everything pretty much cost the same as it did at home. We had a wonderful 2 day getaway! Thank you Civr! Definitely have recommended you to all of our friends!
The place was very tastefully decorated and well appointed. The view and ocean sounds from our room was unparalleled. We never shut the doors to the patio until we went home. We made use of the pool and spa, just below us, and found tennis rackets should we want to go to the courts. We ate breakfast every morning at the patio table in the picture and watched the cruise ships come to port. There are a few flights of stairs, but they get you to one of the best views in Hamilton Cove. Brush up on golf cart driving before you go, that takes a little getting used to.
We have stayed in this wonderful villa on our 2 trips to Catalina in October for JazzTrax festival, scuba diving and sea kayaking. The only reason I say "Probably recommend", it that the villa is now for sale by the owner. They have wonderful artwork and decor, adding tasteful character to their villa. There is all the cooking implements we needed and a gas grill. Hamilton Cove is meticulously maintained. We enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi, tennis and mini golf were fun. Our "neighbor" was catching fish off the dock below! I wish the recycling was more obvious at Hamilton Cove--never found it.
The gorgeous view overlooking the water is definitely the highlight of this villa. We also lived having the complimentary golf cart, so we were able to explore much of the island. The TV and furniture aren't the most modern, but that didn't matter to us. Everything was clean and looked like a nice beach home. We would definitely come back!
We spent a weekend here for our 6th anniversary and loved it! The view of the ocean was great, and it was quiet and peaceful. The pool and hot tub were right below us with great view of the ocean as well. We also enjoyed having the golf cart to zip around town, which was only a short drive away. The rooms were clean and functional, although some things were a little outdated. The only downside was we shared a deck with others. Even though there were "dividers", a chair strategically placed and a small wire fence, there wasn't a lot of privacy. That being said, we didn't mind that much because there weren't many people out there and the neighbors we did meet were nice to chat with, but also let us alone to enjoy our anniversary.
