Vacation Rental Summary
This was our fourth time staying in Hamilton Cove, but definitely not our last. The complex is wonderful, with breathtaking views and the best amenities on Catalina. Villa 1-77 is an excellent condo in the Hamilton Cove complex, and it's one we'd definitely recommend for a number of reasons. First, there are no stairs to get to the apartment. This is a big factor, because many of the condos in H.C. have literally dozens and dozens of stairs to climb in order to reach your front door. Second, because it's one of the highest condos in the complex, it has the most spectacular, unobstructed views. Waking up and sitting on your balcony, looking out at that view of the pacific, is nothing short of awesome. It's also a condo that feels very clean and new, with an excellent stock of dishes, cookware, and even CDs and DVDs, plus a super-soft, comfortable bed. The only negatives are: the bedroom doesn't get much natural light; the golf cart feels a bit old and slow; and there is no wi-fi or cellular service. Other condos in the complex have wi-fi, but not 1-77, and it's something that they should definitely address. But, overall, all of the wonderful positives far outweigh those negatives.
It was ok. It seemed more like someone's place with family pictures and clocks everywhere. A bit strange for a rental. The stove was temperamental , and the go cart smell was really bad too. It is noisy, you can't sleep w windows open at night cause go carts rush by the place.
Lovely & quiet vacation getaway with beautiful decor. Loved the location, close to parking and no steps. The only drawback for us was there was not a standard dining table inside nor on the patio. There were only café-style table & chairs that were the height of tall stools which provide a lovely view but were difficult for someone to get in & out of who have physical challenges like we do (we are a "mature" couple). Other than that, we would highly recommend this unit for a couple.
I loved every minute I spent in this lovely condo. Great view, clean, easy access w/golf cart. I would rent a gain.
Always great views from Hamilton Cove! This place is small, WIFI needs some help, filled with mirrors on about every wall, about everywhere. The view is panoramic! The golf cart that comes with it is cool. Oh, important to mention that the bed there is not a queen sized bed, its smaller like a full size and being on the main road into HC gets noisy (the only thumbs down on this place). Plus is only two steps! Right outside in the back is a stacked washer & dryer in the villa storage/laundry room (use key to unlock and only for H177). They have a cool IPod/IPhone docking station in there and when the WIFI is going you can dock it and stream 91X (SD Alternative FM station since forever!! YAY :) or you can stream from Rhapsody or other streamers or play music off your device - that was very cool! FYI - Only three people can be comfortable sleeping in this villa. Two on the bed (cramped) and one on the larger couch.
My experience staying in Hamilton Cove Unit 1-77 was an amazing experience! Several friends rented 4 other units within Hamilton Cove and our unit by far was the best in location (no stairs!), floorplan and furnishings! Loved having the golfcart at our disposal 24/7. Had several disappointing experiences w/hotels and restaurants as far as customer service (very poor). However everyone that works for Civr was just 110% when it came to customer service. I am highly recommending to anyone traveling to Catalina whether for 1 night or 7 to skip the hotels and stay at Hamilton Cove! Great Memories made for the weekend of my daughter's wedding!!!
The place was really clean, and well kept up. Everything was as pictured. There was one step to the unit, many other units had several stairs. The complex was close to avalon, but far enough away to have quiet. The pool was far away making that difficult to get to. The golf cart needs some upgrading.
Have stayed at various units over the years. While all have great views some are in better condition than others. This unit was exceptional. Clean and fresh and nicely decorated. Some units are a little cluttered with owners decor, 1-77 was top notch. Streamline and classy! The rates are expensive. I used to stay for weeks at a time, but it has become so costly I was only able to afford 4 nights this trip (7/13). The only complaint was the bed was way too soft, but won't take any stars away since I had no problem sleeping with all the swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, etc ... Also, he stairs in some units can be many, over the years that's not been a problem since I'm fit and athletic. However, if that's a problem for you, one plus for this unit is that there are no stairs from the street. It is in building 1 so if you wanted to walk to the beach or pool you may skip the stairs down and drive golf cart and you're there! Thank you owners for making your unit so beautiful! The one comment I have for Civr (who over all were very friendly) is that the check in time (3pm) and check out time (10 am) were a little tough considering the price. In the past I've been able to check out at noon and in some cases 1pm, even in summer. If the cleaning service was able to function within these hours in the past, don't see why they can't now. Will return, but sadly not as often, due to cost. One note to other old timers to the island. Corporations are taking over the island! Making it more a high end tourist destination rather than the quaint, cozy island I knew. Next thing you know they'll dismantle the miniature golf course and move in a Gelson's. They're also taking over the entire Landing, making it an exclusive, expensive day spa. Let's see how that works out for their economy over all and if we can still afford to go over, or if in the end it will only be for the 1%.
