Vacation Rental Summary
This unit has gorgeous views from both bedrooms. We watched sunrise every morning from our balconies. Like other reviews stated, the unit needs some deep cleaning. We found kids toy, clothes on the couch and old half eaten ice cream in the freezer after we checked in. There are red stains (blood?) on the toilet paper holder and on the folding door for the den/second bathroom. The carpet is stained and old, the walls and doors need a fresh coat of paint. The golf cart is old and doesn't have much power. Still, We enjoyed our stay very much and we saw so many deers and two foxes near the Hamilton Cove Villa. We will stay at the Hamilton Cove again next time, but a different unit.
We always stay in Hamilton Cove when we visit Catalina Island, but this was our first time staying in the unit 10-79. We enjoyed our stay, however the unit needs cleaning! The unit is mostly white decor inside with a light brown carpet. The carpet has stains and if you are a clean freak you would be able to see that doors and cabinets need cleaning. I am not sure if the ladies that are there to clean are doing the job? We have stayed in another unit in the past, but the unit was not available this time for our trip in Hamilton Cove. We look forward to our next return, but we will look for our old unit again!
We have been coming to Catalina - and staying at Hamilton Cove for the last 20+ years. In unit 10-79 for about 5 I think. The problem with 10-79 is each night we need to put up a blanket with tacks to block out the sun that invariably blasts thru the glass doors/windows in the living room. That is where one of the family sleeps. I have asked the manager to ask the owners for window coverings of some kind to make it a more comfortable place to sleep when morning comes for whoever has to sleep on the couch. We love Ham Cove and enjoy the unit, but it's not cheap and I would hope by next year some kind of window covering - that can be opened and closed - will be added. Also, the golf cart is very sluggish and the brakes were terrible this time. The location of this unit is fantastic though and we have had many happy years staying there. It's a beautiful place.
Unit 1079 overlooks the beach where we were able to observe bait-fish boils, seal patrolling the kelp and the occasional sand shark. On the negative side, the front door really needed a few drops of oil on the hinges. Makes horror movie noises to open/close. The cold water faucet in one bathroom was loose and wobbly. The cautions about towel theft and staining the dishcloths was a little paranoid for my taste. Must have had some bad experiences that I would rather not be blamed for. The check-in office was moved without notice. We were just lucky that a native was able to direct us to the new location. Other than those minor and easily remedied complaints, Unit 1079 is one of my favorite places in the world. The view from the deck gives me joy to recall.
As much as we love catalina island and Hamilton cove, we were very disappointed with the units up keep. It's not that it wasn't clean, it was that most of the living room furniture was very uncomfortable because it had been worn out. I found the linens and bedding to be the same. It wasn't what I had expected for the money spent, nor was it what it was 4 years ago when we rented it. I will be renting this unit again when these things are replaced. They do have very comfortable beds, easy accessibility and a fabulous view.
It was our first time going to Catalina. I am really glad we got this unit due to its location and the fact it has elevator since i have bad knees. Since we are also condo (rental) owners, and rather getting complaints on the web, we would prefer a verbal recommendation, we went to your office to give a list of things that were either missing or were not functioning at the unit. Such as a leak around the sink, broken coffee maker, front door lock, broken lights by the bed, etc...It was a long list and I hope someone still has it to fix them since we would love to stay there again.
I am planning to return to Hamilton Cove for vacation. The ocean views were amazing and the villa was extremely clean. I highly recommend Hamilton Cove for relaxation, convenience and activities.
Let me start by thanking the incredibly responsive and professional team at Civr for their service during our stay. They made our stay easy and relaxing. Thanks to the very accurate images and descriptions of this property online, we knew exactly what the home was like before we even booked it. I stayed in this home with my parents celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary and couldn't have hoped for a better gift to them. We actually arrived late in the evening and upon arrival went straight out on the balcony (even though it was dark). The sound of the ocean and the moonlit waves crashing on the shore actually brought my mother to tears, The happy kind :) This home is simply so amazing it's just like being in your own private villa somewhere on the Mediterranean. We enjoyed breakfast and coffee on the balcony every day and found the full kitchen extremely useful for preparing our own meals. This villa has great views from almost any room and I particularly enjoyed falling asleep and waking to the sound of the waves and the fresh Pacific breeze. We also took advantage of the beach and warm water which are only a few steps from this property. You also can't go wrong with the nearby mini-golf course for some friendly competition. As we were attending the Jazz Trax festival the included golf cart came in quite handy and allowed us the flexibility to explore the island as well. All in all it was the best vacation we've been on and we are frequent travelers, so that means something. We will be talking and dreaming about Catalina until we return again next year!
I would like to tell everyone not to come here so that it doesn't get too popular and I can book it whenever I want, but sadly I will let the secret out. This place was amazing! The complex itself has lot of amenities and is a beautiful spot but I think we had the best unit in the best building. This was the only building with an elevator and the complex is built on a hillside. It would have been difficult for most people to lug their stuff up all the stairs, but we were lucky. There are two balconies and the unit is on the third floor directly over the ocean. We spent a lot of time just enjoying the balcony. The living area and kitchen were huge and you really could fit six people in there comfortably. The unit came with a golf cart which justifies the cost of the condo. We were close to town but far enough so I felt like we had our own space. I am definitely planning on coming back to this place. It was perfect.
The unit is absolutely beautiful but not well taken care of. The sofa bed is unusable. We had to put the mattress on the floor. The carpet is very stained. If the unit had new carpeting and was cleaned up, it is a spectacular place to stay. What we did love was the drama of the unit. Being right on the ocean and the windows above the kitchen made the unit beautiful to walk into. Catalina Island Vacation Rentals was very accommodating and helpful.
I think that with the available golf cart, this vacation rental is the perfect place to go. You can zip anywhere you want to go and leave the hubbub of all the tourists and escape to the rental (which has amazing views). We saw lots of deer, and a shark that likes to frequent right under the balcony. Also, being in the building with the elevator is a huge bonus. I here that some of the units have lots and lots of stairs. I only wish our stay was longer.
This was my fourth (or fifth?) stay at Hamiliton Cove and this location was the very best! You are right at the shore and the views cannot be topped. It was wonderful to have the elevator to get to the third floor (just a few easy steps to get to the elevator). The bed in the master bedroom was heavenly and soft! So easy to float off to sleep, listening to the tide roll over the rocks. Also, very nice to have a separate balcony off the bedroom. My only complaint would be that the furnishings are dreadfully old and uncomfortable (luckily, we spent most of the time out on the patio). The carpets were filthy and could use a good cleaning. While the kitchen had most everything we needed, the pots and pans need to be replaced. So...location of the condo would get 5 stars. Interior...2, but 3 because of the great bed. Also, dealing with Civr is always a pleasure!
10-79 is lovely because it is right on the water. Make me feel like I was a million miles from la area rather the 22 miles from Long Beach. We also got extra attention from the seagulls who let us know it was time for dinner at 5 PM promptly. I don't recommend that you leave your food unattended because they will make themselves at home. Though I am not into mirrors and this place has plenty! it is very nice and comfortable (bed was very comfortable too) and the location couldn't be beat. The den room is really made for one person since it has a Murphy be in it. Twin son two (20 years) decided to join us at the last minute. I brought a single aero bed on the ferry-easy to do. The condo does have a queen aero bed that can be set up on the living room. I am exceptionally sensitive to noise at night and my guys like staying up late talking so I might get a two story condo next time. The bedroom was in the back so I imagine few people would have been bothered. On the other hand I don't know if I could give up this stunning location. I gave the service a very good rather than excellent only because the bbq was low on propane until the last night so cooking was slower Next time I will request that they make sure the propane tank has enough fuel before we arrive. Having the golf car was very handy though we did enjoy walking into town each day.
This was our second time staying in this unit and both stays have been outstanding. Hamilton cove is secluded enough to make your stay relaxing and so serene but close enough to enjoy all the Island has to offer. There is nothing like laying in bed with the windows open and hearing the ocean right outside your window. One could spend the whole weekend inside the unit enjoying the views and magic of the ocean. But with the freedom of exploring with the provided golf cart we enjoyed everything avalon has to offer. An outstanding family weekend getaway!!
