Vacation Rental Summary
This trip goes down as one of our best yet. We went for 3 nights for my 30th birthday and it was both my husband's and my first time in Catalina. Staying in Hamilton Cove, in my opinion, is the best because you get out of busy Avalon and have more peace and quiet. Not to mention access to a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, fitness room, BBQ's, tennis courts, putting green, dock, private pebble beach, and small park areas throughout. Our unit came with a golf cart which made the trip extra fun. We could head into town in the golf cart for a morning coffee at Catalina Coffee & Cookie Co., dinner at Steve's Steakhouse, or laying out at Descanso Beach Club. This condo is nicely decorate and has minimal stairs up to the door. It has 1 private patio with a barbecue and another patio that is shared (but there are plants for more privacy). The unobstructed view is exceptional. Hamilton Cove also feels very safe as you have to go through security to enter. This place is great for families and couples. The only downside is the wireless phone access is minimal to non-existent. However, this could be considered a plus for someone that is wanting to unplug from social media and truly relax. The kitchen is fully stocked. There are also books and games in the unit. Lastly, we highly recommend booking a fishing charter while you are there. We went out for 4 hours with Scotty of Scotty's Sport Fishing and had the time of our lives! Caught 11 yellowtail! My husband is vacuum sealing the meat as I write this. Yum!
The facilities have an Eastern exposure so the sun awakens you to the beautiful ocean sights and sounds. This was a true vacation. No travel - once there. Just relaxation and total connection with nature surrounding you. The site is airy and light with private BBQ, balcony and comfy furniture and bed to luxuriate in. We did nothing but lay about, read books and enjoy the sounds of the surf.
Great location but furnishings not very nice. Really small tv and shower head bad. For what they charge really should upgrade. Much nicer units for same price.
We loved our Hamilton Cove Villa! Great location out of the avalon madness, amazing views from all the rooms, nicely decorated and a golf cart to boot.
Hamilton Cove is the best place to stay on Catalina, away from the bustle and noise of avalon, but an easy golf cart ride into town. The amenities are terrific, though there isn't really a beach per se if that's what you're looking for. Unit 8-95 was spotless, modern, comfortable, bright, and has phenomenal views of the water and the hillside. We spent most of our time on the balcony. If you're looking to lie out and get some rays though, go down to the pool, just a short walk away for the lounge chairs. The kitchen is well stocked, and it was a joy staying in a place the owners appear to use, and have set up as their own vacation home, not just a beachfront hotel devoid of personality. I wouldn't hesitate to book 8-95 again!
This vacation home is a true retreat. It is beautifully decorated. the decor is so clean and cool yet comfortable. The location is perfect as well. The breeze comes through and the views are spectacular day and night. Love this place! Only one complaint, the golf cart has terrible fumes, but it got us back and forth so no big deal.
My wife and I were looking for a memorable, restful, laid back vacation and could not have found a better combination than Catalina, Hamilton Cove and unit 8-95. Simply wonderful. It is the Mediterranean in the U.S. The unit is clean, crisp and well-appointed. The front door is at the road (few steps for carrying luggage), the sounds of the ocean waft in through the windows, and the view is remarkable. Hated to leave! Specifics: 1. Catalina businesses are almost entirely local but affordable. No McDonald's etc. Many only take cash, so take plenty with you. Cab ride: dock to the Cove is $17. 2. The unit provides a very nice gas-engine golf cart. Everyone carts, and avalon is only a 10-minute ride from the unit. Walking is not an option. Used the cart extensively to explore the island and needed a half tank ($9) to fill up when we left. 3. The unit is nicely furnished, but the two Tv's are a bit small, no DVD and no Wifi. Wifi from a local provider is quick and easy to access at $10 or less per day. Excellent connection. 4. The avalon theater is a must. Don't miss it. Saw South Pacific and The Great Gatsby, bought a bucket of popcorn, and listened to the 30-minute organ recital prior to the Saturday night film. Fun evening. 5. Sitting on the veranda with a book can provide a day's entertainment. Bring binoculars. Something is always going on in Hamilton Cove. Catalina Express, cruise ships, the Coast Guard, yachts, sailboats and jet skis are constantly in view, but the most entertaining are the tourist kayakers who meander past all day long. Renting a kayak at Descano Beach is great fun for all ages. Very affordable, very safe and a wonderful way to see things (small sharks, dolphins, seals and flying fish) from the water. 6. Hamilton Cove beach is tiny and pebbly, and the complex is very hilly. 7. May/June water temp marginal. Most people wearing wetsuits, but local kids do fine in their swim suits. No coral, poor snorkling.
