Nice View but needs some updating

The condo is in the first block of buildings which is great and you have around 3 flights of stairs to go down. The condo has a wonderful view and deck area but the day bed needs a new mattress and there isn't ANY wi-fi. Ok I know some people want to go and go off the grid and I get that but cell service is also very limited on that part of the island so none of my party had cell service at all. The other issue I had is that in order to call out of the area code we had to have an calling card to input the access number into the condo land line because you can't call long distance. All we were trying to do was to call our children in the LA area and give them the condo phone number being that none of had access to our cell phones or data through wi-fi. It's a nice condo but I probably would stay in town as it's a hassle with getting a cab then the connectivity issues.
Even the parking space had amazing views!

Hamilton Cove Villa 1-68 can expect us to return to take in the views. The whole front wall is 3 sets of french doors, and a huge view window in the dining area. If you don't want to stare out at the spectacular ocean, then you can glance down to the little rocky cove below you. The condo is awesome: clean, fun, and nicely laid out for sleeping space. As we used it for an inexpensive quick get away we were happy w/the ability to sleep four in a one bedroom unit, and our daughters still each had their own space. There is the twin daybed (which is a trundle if you need it) tucked away in an alcove. And there's also a futon/sofa. The kitchen had everything needed, and more. Downsides: You must carry your suitcases down & back up several flights of stairs, somebody "borrowed ALL the hangers) and left cigarette butts in a potted patio plant. Serious drawback: the Internet and cell phone service was nearly non existent for us At&T users. My husband occasionally got a weak signal, but not I. Our college age daughters were horrified and ended up spending much more time in the charming town of Avalon so as to be connected to the world. I was ok with it, we went there to relax and snorkel, after all. But even the girls were impressed with the condo and the views. It was wonderful to have that cart, couldn't really have stayed there without it. But it also made the villas superior to the hotels. The villas are more attractive, quiet, and as they're gated, more secure than in town. The ride to and from was always enlivened by seeing the shyer Avalon residents, a herd of deer. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed snorkeling in that lovely private cove. Yes, waters are a little chilly. The trick is to go in waist deep, get out for a few minutes. When you get back in, the part of you that got wet is now just fine with the temp. Works every time. And the snorkeling is lovely. Other than Garibaldi, California's state fish the fish are not as brightly colored as Hawaii's, but the flora and fauna are much more so, and create a magnificent experience. The sheer numbers of fish delighted us. This little cove is a nursery to schools and schools of various fish. Even spotted eagle rays, bat rays, sting rays, a shy leopard shark (harmless w/just sandpapery nubs of teeth to eat small clams). Watched a senorita fish and a small calico bass harass an octopus. Snorkeling brought us to Catalina's Hamilton Cove Villas, and will bring us back.

I stayed here at Hamilton Cove for about 6 months. Its been a good experience. They have the best amenities on the island and all the rental units have carts. Its always quiet and clean. I would encourage anyone staying to call Civr and have Ms. Chay Bailey assist you she is great. Jamie one of their managers is great also. Enjoy!

Checked in and discovered several issues: condo was not clean, looked like someone broke in through a window, some furniture was in disarray and discovered two open windows, both of which would not close or lock, and no cell phone service or telephone land line in the condo. As a single woman travelling alone I felt like my personal security was at stake and was uneasy about staying any longer than I did. Because I couldn't secure the room, I couldn't leave my belongings and enjoy the beautiful pool or other amenities at Hamilton Cove. It was not a relaxing experience. I was able to make phone calls and send emails via my laptop using a weak wireless signal that I had to pay for. Because the condo had a shared (open to the public) balcony I had to stay outside with my laptop to avoid having my belongings taken on the balcony. I reported the condo issues to Catalina Island Vacation Rentals (or Civr as the property management company is known) via phone message and emails but was not able to get a response other than a brief email stating someone would contact me soon. After waiting an hour with no response, I removed my belongings, dumped my trash, and called a taxi to take me into avalon, where I stayed the remainder of my vacation at a hotel. Thankfully avalon was not packed as it was midweek and near the end of summer, so I was able to actually book a hotel room. Once at the Civr office to check out they told me they could not refund me any of my money. About two hours after I left the Civr office someone called me and emailed me stating they had processed a refund of about 20% of my total charges paid. Bottom line: Initially, Civr would not take responsibility over maintaining the owner's Hamilton Cove condo. As expensive as this condo was to rent, I could have stayed in avalon at the much nicer (and more secure, better maintained, newer facility) Hotel Pavilion. Not happy!

We want to live here! Lovely one bedroom condo with stunning view and plenty of room. It was our first trip to Catalina and we can't wait to return. Condo was clean & while the furnishings are far from new, everything was in great shape. Very livable and quite comfortable. My wife loved the king sized bed (a bit soft for my liking). But what sold us on the place is three sets of double doors that open onto that gorgeous view. The golf car is also far from new, but worked fine and was great for getting to & from avalon. It was a bit tricky carrying groceries (no trunk), but we managed fine. We dined in town for lunch, but had breakfast & dinner overlooking the sea. Condo is great for a couple. Would probably work for a small family. Bathroom is huge & quite lovely, but there's just the one, so for two couples, it might not work (plus you'd have to decide who gets the living room futon). Civr mafe everything easy. We couldn't have been more pleased.
This please really needs some work.

Ok, first the good. You're on Catalina island in October and the weather is perfect. Sitting on the balcony enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning and looking out over the water is really great. Now the not so good. Walking back into the unit from the balcony. This unit is sorely in need of an update. Every wall needs to be repainted, they are all marked up. Every piece of wood (doors, baseboards, cabinets) needs to be sanded, filled and refinished, they are all banged up. The door stopper for the water closet is broken/gone so the door handle has punched a hole in the wall. The lighting in the bathroom is poor. The lighting in the BR is almost non-existent. The blinds are in bad shape, they are the cheapest ones available. The furniture is old and outdated. Ditto for the dishes, they look like odds and ends that the owner had left over or found at a garage sale. Really, it costs so little to go to Ikea and pick up a set of matching dishes that would look so much better. The same goes for pretty much everything else with this unit, it's just really time for the owner to step up and spend some money on the place. The one bathroom is quite large and could be made so much nicer. The golf card was broken when we arrived, the key switch fell out when I put the key in. Civr was great about getting it fixed but it's still very old and dirty and stinky. We had no hot water for the first two mornings but Civr got it fixed as quickly as they could. Will we stay at Hamilton Cove again? Definitely. But not in unit 1-68. I have nothing but good things to say about Civr, they were great. Responsive to problems, and very friendly.
