Things to do on Catalina Island

Adventures around on the island, where you can plan a Catalina vacation bursting with adrenaline or brimming with relaxation. Here are six of the things we’re looking forward to this summer.

Catch a concert – The Catalina Concert Series has become a must-do on many Catalina Island vacation lists. With a combination of cover bands and original artists, the series offers fun for all ages – and a beer garden for the over-21 crowd. You’ll also find Live @ Descanso Beach – a series of four concerts at the popular beach club.

Scuba dive – Catalina Island consistently ranks as one of the top scuba diving destinations in North America. With its diverse marine life and crystal clear waters, it’s not hard to see why. Divers come from around the world to see what the island offers. Getting certified takes about a week or you can get your feet wet with a Discover Scuba experience.
Try out the Cyclone – The newest activity on Catalina Island is the Cyclone, a high-speed marine adventure aboard the fastest commercial boat in Avalon Harbor. This thrill ride promises tight turns, high speeds and more than a few splash zone opportunities. Book it for transportation to Two Harbors or to check out the flying fish.
Harbor Sands at Two Harbors – Two Harbors has had a facelift. Located on the island’s remote West End, Two Harbors has attracted campers, hikers and boaters for generations. It’s rustic charm and isolated location make it a perfect day trip from Avalon. This spring, Harbor Sands offers a new option, with cabanas and chaise lounges just above the high tide line.
Climb a tree – With the zipline, snuba, kayaking and a rock wall, plus shopping, dining and cocktails on the sand, Descanso Beach has become a must-do attraction on Catalina Island. This spring there’s one more reason to visit Descanso. The Catalina Aerial Adventure combines suspended bridges, mini-ziplines and more to create an obstacle course in the trees that will bring out your inner adventurer.
Check out Chihuly – Fill your day with awe at the Catalina Island Museum. Dale Chihuly, arguably the most famous glass artist in the world, has his only Southern California exhibition at the Ada Blanche Wrigley Schreiner Catalina Island Museum until December. Installations both large and small showcase the artist ability to bring artistry and whimsy to life.
