Adventuring on the other side of Catalina

Located just 20 miles from Avalon, Two Harbors provides a dramatic contrast to Catalina Island’s only incorporated city. With just a few businesses, but a wealth of available activities, Two Harbors offers an adventurous alternative to vacationing in Avalon. Also known as the Isthmus, Two Harbors is Catalina’s narrowest spot and features a restaurant, a bar and general store as well as camping, a bed and breakfast and two luxurious vacation rentals.

Hiking, jogging and mountain biking are popular pursuits here, with a range of trails and roads providing a roadmap for island exploration. Those roads and trails lead to coves, vistas and beaches that are ideal for escapades and reflection. Terrestrial activities don’t need to be nearly as adventurous – Two Harbors is ideal for wandering on the beach, strolling along the shore and beach combing for shells and seaglass.

The waters around the Isthmus are a water lover’s dream come true. Scuba divers and snorkelers will discover garibaldi and sheepshead, leopard sharks and bat rays, moray eels and kelp forests. Isthmus Cove, the leeward of Two Harbors’s two harbors, is ideal for paddle boarding and kayaking and anglers will discover that Catalina Island’s West End is perfect for white sea bass, halibut and yellowtail.
